2 Small Business Marketing Strategies that Fail Everytime
Are you thinking because you’re a small business, that marketing will be easy and little thought should be taken? Does it seem as if you want to try a little of this and a little of that to see what works? Having a marketing budget is for large companies and you’ll just try advertising in small spurts until you can’t afford it anymore.
If this is your thinking then what I want you to do is to STOP IT. (Yes, go ahead and picture your grandmother saying this to you. STOP IT.)
I’m going to tell you two marketing strategies that will FAIL. This will be done without sugar coating or soft whispers. It’s going to be pretty cut and dry without a lot of fluff.
Are you ready?
The first FAIL marketing strategy for a small business is the BUFFET STYLE MARKETING. A lot of new small business owners are excited about marketing and overwhelmed. They are bombarded by radio and TV advertising reps. What will work? What won’t work? So marketing becomes like an open buffet…trying a little of everything in a short amount of time until you are full and have a stomach ache. What happens is you’re disenchanted with advertising because none of the methods seem to work. If there was a spark raise in your business…you have no idea what advertising did what.
The second FAIL marketing tip is one I like to call OLD SCHOOL MARKETING: Trying the same types of marketing you’ve done in the past without updating the content in hopes you’ll have the same success as before. Why did it work before? If you don’t know, then how can you make it work again?
In our next blog post, I’ll tell you about a few SUCCESSFUL marketing strategies to help promote your small business.
